Who we are:
We are an educational network for Portland organizers and activists.
The energy of the working people of Portland remains electric. The local labor movement shows signs of reinvigoration. Oppression and exploitation at home and overseas have fostered solidarity, as multiple national liberation movements regularly take to the streets in the name of justice. The ongoing housing crisis has triggered a new wave of tenant union organizing and outreach to the houseless. The political consciousness of local students continues to reach new heights. These efforts - among others - assure that wherever one walks in this town, the sound of the struggle for a brighter future isn’t far away.
Despite this, previous attempts to unite all these distinct forms of struggle have fallen short. If the working class and the organized left are to succeed in the long term, we must find new ways of unifying our collective knowledge and endeavors. CAMBIE - Class Analysis for Movement Building, Improvement, and Education - represents a direct effort by the working people of Portland to do just this. By collecting information through contributing parties and individuals - distinct groups involved in distinct struggles and forms of organizing across Portland - we hope to develop a complete class and socioeconomic analysis of the greater metro area. This is all to remain entirely publicly accessible, so that anyone and everyone can use this knowledge to better inform and improve the effectiveness of their own organizing efforts.
The future lies in the movement to build a true united front, and this can only be accomplished by first collectivizing our knowledge and experience.
